The Tripura Pradesh Congress, in line with the All India Congress Committee’s decision, has joined a nationwide campaign alleging large-scale electoral malpractice by the Modi government and the Election Commission of India (ECI).

At a press conference held in Agartala on August 9 and 10, TPCC Spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty, Satyajit Bhowmik, and Shreyashi Laskar echoed the claims made by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, who alleged systematic manipulation of voter lists and election results since 2014.

Citing ECI’s own data, Chakraborty claimed that during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the number of votes cast in some constituencies exceeded official figures by 8–9 percent, with several seats recording thousands more votes than registered voters—most of which were won by NDA candidates.

He also referred to a polling agency’s survey that suggested results in 79 Lok Sabha constituencies did not reflect public sentiment, and that 72 percent of citizens had

“completely lost faith” in the ECI. Allegations were also made of attempts to remove economically weaker sections from voter rolls under the guise of the SIR process.

Accusing the ECI of acting as a “parrot” of the Modi government, Chakraborty urged the people of Tripura to remain vigilant ahead of future elections to ensure that no legal citizen is excluded from the voter list and no illegal entries are added.

The Pradesh Congress has announced booth-level monitoring of the final voter list and appealed to all “secular democratic citizens” to join the movement against “vote theft” by giving a missed call to 9650003420.
