Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman has strongly criticized the Union Budget for the 2026-27 financial year, saying it fails to reflect the needs of ordinary citizens and lacks transparency.
Speaking on the budget, Barman said, “Every year the budget is presented, but people hardly remember what has happened. In the budget, it should be mentioned how much was allocated for each sector and how much of that fund was actually utilized, which we never get.”
He expressed concern over significant cuts in crucial sectors such as Health, Education, Social Welfare, and scholarships for ST, SC, and OBC students. “Even development for the North East region has been overlooked. After the budget, the share market collapsed. This year’s budget has disappointed people, especially those from the poor sections of society,” he said.
Barman also pointed out that the budget failed to address employment generation and agriculture.
“There is nothing for farmers, and the low revenue receipts indicate that the economy is under stress,” he added.
The Congress leader’s remarks come amid growing criticism from various opposition parties over the perceived lack of focus on social welfare and regional development in the current budget.
