Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman has alleged that the recent violence at Shantir Bazaar reflects internal conflicts within the BJP.

Speaking at GB Hospital while checking on the condition of the injured, he claimed that attempts are being made to tarnish the present by revisiting the political turbulence of the 1980s.

MLA Roy Barman said he visited the injured, including a BDO and engineers, to assess their health following the incident. He condemned the attack in front of the police as “highly reprehensible,” asserting that the victims were targeted because they are Bengali. He described the situation in the state as resembling “lawlessness in a jungle,” noting that the Shantir Bazaar incident clearly demonstrates the collapse of law and order.

He further accused a section of people of attempting to recreate the chaos of the 1980s for political gain. Roy Barman demanded swift legal action against the organizers of the bandh and the attackers, insisting that they be appropriately punished. “This cannot be allowed to continue. The Chief Minister must take proper measures against such incidents,” he added.

The Congress legislator also alleged internal strife within the BJP as a reason behind the violence. Criticizing former party leaders for their actions, he claimed that such moves are intended to manipulate the current political scenario.

Addressing the Chief Minister, he emphasized the government’s duty to protect the lives and property of citizens. “It is unacceptable that ordinary people are being beaten and losing their property while the police merely watch. The police should be given full freedom to act independently. Only then will law and order be restored in the state,” Roy Barman said.

He wished a speedy recovery for those injured and demanded compensation, subject to investigation, for those who suffered property loss.
