The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Monday strongly criticized the 2026-27 Union Budget, describing it as “visionless” and failing to chart a clear path for the nation’s growth.

At a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan, party president Ashish Kumar Saha expressed serious concerns over the budget’s direction.
“This budget offers no strategic plan for the country’s future. Without a concrete vision, it risks reducing employment opportunities and increasing economic uncertainty, particularly affecting the working class,” Saha warned.

Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty added that the budget could potentially increase avenues for financial mismanagement and does little to address ongoing unemployment challenges.

Chakraborty further criticized the budget for ignoring the specific needs of Tripura and the wider northeastern region.
“Despite repeated requests and proposals from the state, none of our key demands have been addressed. This budget is especially disappointing for states in the Northeast,” he said.

He presented data from prior budgets to underline the insufficient allocation for regional development, highlighting critical gaps in job creation, youth programs, and infrastructure support.
“This budget largely recycles past measures instead of introducing innovative solutions, leaving the country unprepared to tackle emerging economic and social challenges,” Chakraborty concluded.
