Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the present state government is committed to providing quality education and improving infrastructure in the education sector.

“The government is working to create a conducive environment for learning across the state. Only through education can one establish oneself in both personal and social life,” he said.

Dr. Saha made these remarks while inaugurating the prize distribution ceremony of Vivekananda Shishu Niketan School, held at Bishalgarh Town Hall today.

Highlighting the achievements of the school, the Chief Minister said that Vivekananda Shishu Niketan has delivered outstanding results in the secondary examinations, with five students securing positions in the state merit list.

“The credit for this goes to the parents, guardians, and teachers. Several demands have been raised for the development of this school, and necessary steps will be taken in consultation with the concerned officials to extend support. Students should pay close attention to their teachers in class. In today’s age of social media and the internet, one can gain knowledge from anywhere—education has truly come to our fingertips,” he added.

Dr. Saha, who also holds the education portfolio, expressed concern over students’ growing dependence on private tuition, saying it hampers their ability to develop knowledge independently.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly said that in the future, it will be those with knowledge who will lead the state and the country. There is nothing wrong with securing good results, but children must also think about society and the nation. One cannot become a complete individual through textbook learning alone. Along with studies, participation in sports and other activities is essential. Students should engage in social service, develop awareness about the state, the country, and the world. Only then can one truly become a well-rounded individual. The foundation of a nation is education,” Dr. Saha said.

The Chief Minister also stressed the government’s focus on developing educational infrastructure.

“In 2024, new school buildings worth around Rs 153 crore were constructed, and over Rs 80 crore was spent on renovating various schools. In 2025–26, about Rs 264 crore has been allocated for the construction of more new school buildings,” he informed.
