Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday lashed out at the Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing the party of trying to divert national attention from the ongoing flood crisis in North Bengal.

He claimed that the TMC has no significant presence in Tripura apart from a few signboards.

Addressing reporters, Dr. Saha said, “The way the Trinamool Congress is running their government is beyond comment. In North Bengal, the situation is extremely serious due to floods and landslides, and many people are suffering. Our MPs and MLAs, including Khagen Murmu and others, went there to distribute relief materials. However, TMC-backed individuals launched a violent attack, leaving some of our workers injured and hospitalized.”

He added that people across Tripura were outraged by the incident. Referring to a rally held in Agartala on Monday, the Chief Minister remarked that the TMC’s activities in the state are superficial.

“In Tripura, the Trinamool Congress exists only through signboards. Some angry youths staged a protest, and although the police were present, they couldn’t do much. Taking advantage of the situation, a few people from Kolkata came here — I don’t know what they intend to achieve. They are free to come, but it won’t help them,” Dr. Saha said.

Accusing the TMC of attempting to shift public focus away from the North Bengal crisis, he asserted that such tactics would backfire. “They will gain nothing from it; in fact, their vote bank will shrink. I only pray that they gain some common sense and focus on maintaining law and order in West Bengal instead of creating unrest elsewhere,” he added.
