Tripura Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha on Friday night inaugurated the 24th state-based Sangramma Puja-cum-cultural programme of the Bru (Reang) community at Manu Bazar under Shantir Bazar subdivision in South Tripura district.
Extending greetings to the community, Dr. Saha said the state and central governments are working sincerely for the welfare of all 19 tribal groups in Tripura. “Tripura is a hub of mixed culture across the country. We must ensure that the bond of intimacy and brotherhood among us grows stronger,” he said.
The Chief Minister stressed that unlike previous governments that tried to create divisions among communities, the BJP-led government believes in inclusive development. “Our government respects every community’s traditions. We want to see smiles on everyone’s faces,” he added.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives for tribal welfare, Dr. Saha mentioned the introduction of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas in honor of Lord Birsa Munda, the appointment of Draupadi Murmu as President, and the elevation of Jishnu Debbarma as Governor of Telangana. He also recalled the Padma Shri recognition given to seven tribal personalities of Tripura.
On the Bru rehabilitation process, Dr. Saha said the government has increased the resettlement package from ₹500 crore to ₹800 crore, with arrangements for rehabilitation across 12 locations. He noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally visited the Bru rehabilitation centers to assess the situation.
Calling for preservation of history, culture, and Sanatan Dharma, the Chief Minister asserted that India remains a strong example of unity in diversity despite centuries of foreign invasions.
The programme, organized by Bir Chandra Manu Bru Sangramma Matha Sanstha, was attended by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, ADC executive member Dolly Reang, ADC member Sanjit Reang, social worker Bipin Debbarma, and several community leaders.
