The Tripura Civil Society has called for a statewide dawn-to-dusk bandh on October 13, demanding the introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, action against illegal immigrants, and speedy implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma said on Saturday.
Speaking at a press conference today, Debbarma emphasized that the bandh has been called by a non-political organization, with Tipra Motha extending its support.
He urged the Tripura government to take immediate action against illegal immigrants in line with Union Home Ministry directives, noting that other states such as Assam, Gujarat, and Delhi have already acted, while Tripura has not.
Debbarma also criticized the Centre’s extension of the deadline for granting citizenship to refugees, saying it is not acceptable in Tripura. He clarified that refugees and illegal migrants are different, and many living illegally in the state have not applied for citizenship.
The civil society has further demanded detention camps in every district, similar to Assam, and the formation of a Special Task Force to identify and deport illegal migrants.
Reiterating the call for ILP in Tripura, Debbarma said the move is not against any community and is already in place in several northeastern states. He also pressed for implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, introduction of Roman script for the Kokborok language, and action against those using fake SC/ST certificates.
