Tensions gripped Agartala on Tuesday evening after a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protest rally turned violent, leading to an attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party office near Chittaranjan Club.

The rally, organized to protest against the alleged attack on BJP leaders in West Bengal, was led by West Tripura (Urban) District President Asim Bhattacharya and BJP Yuva Morcha State President and MLA Sushanta Deb.

The march began from the Ram Thakur Sangha area and proceeded toward the Motor Stand.

As the procession reached the Motor Stand, a section of BJP supporters reportedly turned agitated and attacked the nearby TMC state office. Despite the presence of police personnel from East Agartala Police Station and Maharajganj Outpost, law enforcement initially struggled to control the situation. The TMC office was allegedly vandalized during the incident.

BJP workers, while condemning violence in West Bengal, accused the Trinamool Congress of fostering a culture of political attacks.

Speaking to reporters, MLA Sushanta Deb said, “The brutal attack on our MP and MLA in West Bengal is unprecedented in Indian political history. Such violence cannot be tolerated. Khagen Murmu is an Adivasi leader — attacking him is an attack on the dignity of tribal people.”

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress sources said a four-member delegation — including TMC spokesperson and former MP Kunal Ghosh, Lok Sabha MPs Saayoni Ghosh and Pratima Mondal, and youth leader Sudip Raha — is expected to arrive in Agartala on Tuesday to assess the situation and meet party members.
