Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Thursday met Delhi Lieutenant Governor and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Chairman Tarunjit Singh Sandhu, seeking the allocation of suitable land in the national capital for constructing residential hostels for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students from Tripura pursuing higher studies in Delhi.
During the meeting, the minister submitted a formal demarche (D.O.) letter requesting land for setting up a 100-seat boys’ hostel and a 100-seat girls’ hostel in Delhi.
Debbarma said the proposed facilities are intended to provide safe, affordable, and comfortable accommodation to tribal students who travel from Tripura to Delhi for higher education. He added that the initiative would help students, particularly those from remote areas, overcome housing difficulties and focus better on their academic pursuits.
The minister highlighted that the Tripura government remains committed to enhancing educational opportunities and promoting the welfare and empowerment of tribal youth.
He expressed optimism that the proposal would receive favourable consideration from the Delhi Lieutenant Governor and that the hostel project would be taken up soon for the benefit of ST students from the state.
