Tripura has emerged as one of the fastest-growing tourism hubs in the Northeast, recording a sharp rise in both domestic and foreign visitor arrivals over the last two years, according to the India Tourism Data Compendium 2025 released by the Ministry of Tourism.

In 2024, the state registered 601,000 domestic tourist arrivals, up 64.07% from 366,000 in 2023. Foreign tourist inflow also climbed 36.15%, with 91,000 visitors in 2024 compared to 67,000 the previous year.

Tripura now ranks second only to Sikkim in attracting foreign tourists among northeastern states.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury attributed the surge to sustained government efforts to strengthen infrastructure and enhance facilities at key destinations. “We have undertaken a series of initiatives to develop tourist spots that were neglected in the past. Recently, we also held discussions with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia regarding new tourism projects, and we are hopeful of positive outcomes,” Chowdhury said.

He further noted that the state is modernizing tourist lodges to provide better accommodation, which will improve visitor experience and increase revenue.

The latest figures reflect Tripura’s growing prominence on the tourism map of the Northeast, opening up fresh avenues for economic growth and cultural exchange.
