A six-year-old girl, Deepika Tripura, from the Natimanu area under Chamanu block, has been given a new chance at life after successfully undergoing a complex congenital heart disease (CHD) surgery at Apollo Children’s Hospital, Chennai.
Deepika had been struggling with breathing difficulties and fatigue since early childhood. During a routine health screening on February 10 conducted by the Chamanu Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) team, doctors detected an irregular heartbeat and referred her for further examination.
Following the detection, the Dhalai District Health Department, under the guidance of the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC), took immediate action. An echocardiography test at ILS Hospital on April 23 confirmed that Deepika was suffering from a congenital heart defect requiring urgent surgical intervention.
All pre-operative tests were completed on July 8 at the DEIC unit of Dhalai District Hospital. The DEIC team also assisted the family with financial and administrative arrangements to ensure a smooth treatment process.
With support from the Tripura Government’s approved health scheme, arrangements were made to send Deepika to Chennai for advanced cardiac surgery. On October 26, a team of expert pediatric cardiologists at Apollo Children’s Hospital performed the surgery successfully.
Deepika is now recovering well. Her father, Paramjoy Tripura, expressed deep gratitude, saying,
“We will never forget the support we received from the Chamanu RBSK team and the District Health Department. Thanks to their timely help, our daughter is healthy again.”
This heartwarming story underscores the effectiveness of coordinated healthcare services and government health initiatives like RBSK, which ensure that even children from remote areas can access specialized medical care.
