A tense situation unfolded in Ambassa when police stopped the convoy of former Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik with barricades as she was on her way to attend an organizational program in Dharmanagar.

The incident sparked anger among her supporters and led to heated exchanges between Bhoumik and police officials on the spot.

Expressing strong displeasure, Pratima Bhoumik questioned why she was being stopped by “barricades set up by her own party’s administration.” She sharply criticized the authorities, saying, “When TCS officers were assaulted during the bandh, where were these barricades then?”

Referring to the recent incident at Shantir Bazar, Bhoumik alleged that those who had called the bandh had created chaos everywhere in the name of working for the tribal community but had actually harmed it. “When the Tipra Motha supporters were creating disturbances during the bandh, where were you all? Now when I’m going for organizational work, you’re stopping me—why?” she questioned.

Bhoumik further alleged that BJP workers across the state were facing frequent attacks but the police were not taking any action. Her anger and remarks created a stir in the area, with her statements revealing deep dissatisfaction with the functioning of the administration.

In a scathing comment directed at the police, Bhoumik said, “You are no longer a part of the government; rather, the government has become a part of you. You have destroyed the system and are now thinking how to finish it further. Staging a drama by stopping me today was totally uncalled for.”

Her remarks reportedly left the officials present visibly uncomfortable. She also warned that such incidents were tarnishing the image of the state and blamed administrative complacency for the deteriorating situation.

The episode has triggered a political uproar in Tripura. According to some within the BJP, Bhoumik’s outburst and her direct criticism of the police reflect growing internal unease within the organization.

Following the confrontation, her convoy was eventually allowed to proceed toward Dharmanagar. However, her sharp comments have once again stirred fresh controversy in the state’s political circles.
