The alleged killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth from Mymensingh, Bangladesh, has triggered sharp reactions from political leaders in Tripura, with demands for accountability and concern over the safety of minorities across the border.

Royal Scion of Tripura and founder of Tipra Motha, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, alleged that Dipu Chandra Das, a Bangladeshi national, was brutally assaulted and set on fire. He claimed that the incident reflects growing hostility towards minorities in Bangladesh and accused political parties of maintaining silence on the issue.

Debbarma also rejected accusations branding Tipra Motha supporters as “goondas,” stating that his party has been verbally attacked outside the Indian Embassy and accused of dividing the North East whenever it raises concerns about cross-border violence.

“We love our land and our people. Speaking against injustice should not be labeled as hooliganism. The real enemy is not within, but those who are spreading violence and hatred,” Debbarma said.

Meanwhile, Tripura’s SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das cited reports suggesting that the incident stemmed from a dispute inside a garment shop. According to him, the victim was allegedly accused of insulting religion, labeled an “Indian broker,” and later lynched.

“He was reportedly tied to a tree and burned alive, allegedly in the presence of law enforcement personnel,” the minister said, calling the incident deeply disturbing and demanding a thorough investigation.
