In a daring jailbreak early Wednesday morning, six undertrial prisoners, including a Bangladeshi national, escaped from Dharmanagar Sub-Jail in North Tripura district however one re-arrested.

The incident took place around 6 a.m. when the inmates, after being let out of their cells for morning duties, attacked security personnel with improvised weapons. During the scuffle, a jail official, identified as Bedu Mia, was injured and admitted to Dharmanagar District Hospital for treatment.

The escapees have been identified as Nazim Uddin – accused in several theft and property-related cases Rahim Ali facing trial under Sections 331 and 309 of the BNS, Sunil Debbarma charged in a murder case under Sections 364, 302, and 201 of the IPC, Narayan Dutta– Bangladeshi national booked under Section 03 of the PP Act, Rosan Ali – facing charges under Sections 331 and 309 of the BNS, Abdul Pata – from Nilambazar, Assam, charged under the NDPS Act in a drug case

Officials said the prisoners avoided the heavily guarded main gate and scaled the right-side wall of the jail compound to escape.

Following the incident, security agencies have launched a massive search operation across Tripura and adjoining areas of Assam. Additional checks have been enforced at highways, bus stands, railway stations, and vulnerable points along the international border with Bangladesh.
