Amid growing factionalism within Tripura’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and strains in its alliance with Tipra Motha, the party on Wednesday held a high-level meeting at its state headquarters in Agartala to address internal discord and organizational challenges.
The closed-door meeting was chaired by BJP North East Coordinator and MP Dr. Sambit Patra, and attended by party state in-charge Dr. Rajdeep Roy, state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, ministers, MLAs, and key office bearers.
Discussions focused on assessing organizational shortcomings, resolving intra-party differences, and strengthening coordination with Tipra Motha — a crucial ally with significant influence in the state’s tribal-dominated areas.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, BJP Tripura president Rajib Bhattacharjee said,
“Our central leaders, including Dr. Sambit Patra and Dr. Rajdeep Roy, have joined us today. The meeting aimed to strengthen the party’s organizational framework, reinforce grassroots connections, and advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ initiatives. We will also mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31 with statewide observances.”
Referring to the recent civil society strike and related violence, Bhattacharjee said,
“All our leaders, including Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, former CM Biplab Kumar Deb, and I myself, have strongly condemned the incidents. We must remain united and work collectively for Tripura’s development. Building a ‘Srestha Tripura’ requires contributions from both tribal and non-tribal communities.”
He further added that dialogue with Tipra Motha would continue through regular consultations to resolve ongoing issues and sustain coordination between the allies.
The discussions also come ahead of the upcoming TTAADC and Village Committee elections, where the BJP aims to consolidate its base and present a united front.
