Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, Tripura’s royal scion and founder of the Tipra Motha Party, today called for unity among the people of Tripura, emphasizing that national security should take precedence over political differences in light of recent developments in Bangladesh.
Speaking at Agartala’s Swami Vivekananda Maidan during the distribution of e-autos, Pradyot highlighted the plight of minority communities in Bangladesh. He noted that Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians there are facing attacks, arson, and land encroachments.
“We are currently engaged in internal conflicts here in Tripura, showing our divisions to our neighboring country, which they could exploit. Politics and party interests must be set aside—our priority should be the security of our nation. History reminds us of the 1946 Noakhali riots, when my grandfather received letters from Mahatma Gandhi and many refugees were welcomed in Tripura. We must consider how we would respond if a similar situation arose today. It is crucial that we stand united and present a strong response,” he said.
On the occasion, Pradyot also discussed the e-auto distribution program under the Tipra-HAM initiative, launched by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in 2025. This year, 1,600 e-autos are being distributed with financial support from Bajaj Finance. Beneficiaries, including unemployed youth and farmers, will also receive home-based charging facilities for the vehicles.
Pradyot stressed the importance of economic development alongside political engagement. “Farmers often suffer losses when they cannot sell their produce on time. I am advocating for cold storage facilities to help them preserve their goods. Strengthening the economy is essential—only when our economic situation improves can we secure better opportunities for our youth and a brighter future for Tripura,” he added.
