Former Tipra Motha supremo and MDC Pradyot Kishore Debbarma launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a joining program held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan today. Accusing the saffron party of pursuing communal politics, he said the BJP divides people on religious lines while hypocritically promoting the slogan “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
Pradyot alleged that BJP leaders are luring tribal people to join the party by offering them money. “I do not engage in cheap politics,” he asserted, emphasizing that his political struggle is for the genuine development of the Tiprasa community and future generations.
Targeting all major political parties, including the BJP, CPI(M), and Congress, Pradyot said they only work for their own political gain. “None of these parties care about the future of Tripura or its coming generations. They only show up at people’s doors during elections,” he said.
He accused the BJP of practicing double standards, saying, “If someone says ‘Thansa’ (unity among Tiprasas), it is labeled as communal. But when they say ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ it is called national unity. What kind of hypocrisy is this?”
Criticizing the BJP’s continuous membership drives, Pradyot mocked the figures being reported to the central leadership. “The way people are said to be joining the BJP every day, it seems as if the tribal population will soon exceed one crore. In reality, four people join, but they report four hundred to Delhi,” he quipped, accusing the state BJP of misleading the central leadership with false data.
Speaking about the recent bandh, Pradyot clarified that Tipra Motha had never supported any such shutdown. “We did not call the bandh. One MLA may have participated, but I never endorsed it publicly. Even when I was in Congress, I didn’t support bandhs because they hurt poor people the most,” he said.
Concluding his address, Pradyot asserted that since the formation of Tipra Motha, there has been no communal unrest in the state. “Because I don’t do cheap politics,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to peace and genuine progress for the indigenous people of Tripura.
