Emphasizing the pivotal role of the Zila Parishad in grassroots democracy, Power, Agriculture, and Farmer’s Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath today attended the general body meeting of Paschim Tripura Zila Parishad and reviewed a wide range of developmental activities in the district.
Speaking at the meeting, the Minister said a comprehensive review was undertaken of the programs implemented so far and discussions were held on strategies for executing future plans.
“I believe that such meetings significantly contribute to the district’s development and inject fresh momentum into the activities of government departments,” Nath stated.
He informed that the general body meeting, held every three months, is usually presided over by the Zila Parishad Chairperson and attended by Zila Parishad members, Panchayat Samiti Chairpersons, MLAs, and senior officials from various departments.
The agenda included reviewing the progress of decisions taken in the previous meeting and assessing developmental works across key sectors such as Agriculture, PWD, Health, Education, Social Welfare, and Social Education.
Highlighting the structure of governance, Nath said India functions through three layers of government — central, state, and rural — with the Zila Parishad serving as the cabinet of the rural government.
“This is an important democratic institution. The funds we distribute are allocated among TTAADC, Zila Parishads, and Corporations for implementation. This process is entirely democratic,” the Minister added.
