Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar paid a surprise visit to the city’s busiest old motor stand area on Sunday morning to inspect the ongoing road renovation work. He was accompanied by Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, CEO of the Smart City Project.
The road, which has long been in a dilapidated state, has been causing difficulties for pedestrians, local businessmen, and commuters, as one side remained closed for weeks during the renovation.
Mayor Majumdar stated that the initial phase of the work has progressed significantly, and the closed section of the road will be reopened to traffic starting today.
He expressed hope that this move would provide much-needed relief to daily commuters.
The Mayor further added that permanent renovation work on the road will commence after Lakshmi Puja, ensuring minimal disruption to the public during the festive season.
During the inspection, Mayor Majumdar made another key announcement regarding the welfare of street traders. The Municipal Corporation plans to rehabilitate 22 small traders who earn their livelihood along the sidewalks of the area.
“We want the city to be beautiful, the roads wide and smooth. At the same time, we are committed to safeguarding the livelihoods of those who have been trading here for years,” he said.
The announcement and surprise inspection have brought hope to local residents who have long complained about the poor condition of roads in this important area. Residents are optimistic that the renovation work will be completed on schedule, and the old motor stand road will see a complete transformation in time for Durga Puja.
