In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Tripura Police carried out a series of coordinated raids across the state, seizing a huge quantity of dry ganja valued at over Rs 20 lakh. Six individuals were arrested in separate operations, while one suspect managed to escape and is currently on the run.
Acting on confidential information, police launched a raid at Barkhala village in Sepahijala district. During the operation, a Bolero vehicle (registration number TR-01-D-3432) was intercepted and searched. Officers discovered four plastic drums packed with dry ganja weighing approximately 138 kilograms.
Sub-Inspector Amarkishore Debbarma led the operation and seized both the contraband and the vehicle after completing all legal formalities. One accused, identified as Ripan Miah (18), a resident under Jatrapur Police Station limits, was detained in connection with the case. However, the vehicle’s driver fled towards a nearby forest during the operation. Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched a search to apprehend the absconding suspect.
In another early morning operation in Bijoynagar under Sonamura Police Station, police raided the residence of Ram Krishna Debbarma (43). During the search, officials recovered a staggering 790 kilograms of dry ganja from the premises.
Three persons — Ram Krishna Debbarma (43), Bhagyasri Debbarma (35), and Dipankar Sarkar (18) — were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway to uncover the broader network.
Meanwhile, in a separate anti-narcotics drive, officers from East Agartala Police Station intercepted an e-rickshaw near Bijoy Apartment in the College Tilla area following specific intelligence inputs about drug movement towards Jogendranagar Railway Station.
Upon checking the vehicle, police recovered 18 kilograms of dry ganja along with two mobile phones. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around Rs 90,000 in the illegal market. Two individuals were detained and booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
Officer-in-Charge Subrata Debnath confirmed that the accused will be produced before the court with a plea for police remand. Authorities are also probing possible links to a larger drug smuggling network operating in and around the state.
The back-to-back operations highlight intensified efforts by Tripura Police to curb narcotics trafficking and dismantle organized drug networks across the region.
