A delegation of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), comprising ministers, MLAs, and members of district councils, today visited the Asarambari Assembly Constituency in Tripura’s Khowai district, following an alleged attack on BJP workers during the Mann Ki Baat programme on Sunday.

The delegation issued a stern warning against political violence and urged the state and central governments to take appropriate steps.

Speaking to the media, BJP leader Rampada Jamatia alleged that former CPI(M) workers, who have since joined the Tipra Motha Party, launched an attack during the Mann Ki Baat programme hosted as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly address.

“We and the central leadership need to think seriously about this. Back in 2018, when we formed an alliance with the IPFT, we saw similar acts of violence under the banner of Greater Tipraland. Now, the Tipra Motha Party is doing the same. Tribal people attacking tribal people—this is unfortunate. The Centre, especially Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, must take note. We want peace,” Jamatia said.

He added that the delegation’s visit aimed to express solidarity with the victims and ensure they feel supported by the party.

Jamatia also pointed fingers at Tipra Motha Party leader and state minister Animesh Debbarma, claiming that his supporters were involved in the attack. “We will meet the Chief Minister and provide a detailed account. Legal action must follow,” he added.

State minister Santana Chakma, who was also part of the delegation, condemned the incident. “Many of our karyakartas are still hospitalised. The attack came without warning during a peaceful programme. We strongly condemn such conspiracies and will continue to raise our voice democratically wherever there is unrest,” she said.

Former Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura also denounced the incident, calling it "highly condemnable."

The BJP leaders met Khowai District Superintendent of Police Randitya Das and submitted a memorandum seeking action against those involved.
