A large delegation of media professionals, primarily editors, met Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu at Lok Bhavan today, submitting a memorandum demanding indipendent investigation against two MLAs including Ramprasad Paul and Ranjit Debbarma who have allegedly threatened senior journalists and editors

Earlier, a section of editors had staged a rally outside Rabindra Bhavan, demanding strict action against the legislators.

A memorandum on the same issue was also submitted to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.

Today the delegation has met the Governor Nallu demanding strict action.

Speaking with reporters, President of Agartala Press Club Pranab Sarkar who is also Editor of Headlines Tripura Nationals said that the entire state is witnessing the actions of these two MLAs.

“The media has extensively covered these issues, so there’s no need to elaborate further. Today, we met the Governor at Lok Bhavan to brief him on the matter and urged him to take necessary action,” said Sarkar.

Sarkar added, “We will wait for a response from the government before deciding our next course of action.”

Echoing similar concerns, Sebak Bhattacharjee, editor of Channel Vanguard, said, “We tried to make the Governor understand the gravity of the situation. Democracy is at risk when the media feels threatened. The Governor assured us that necessary steps will be taken.”

The development highlights growing tensions between political representatives and the media in the state, with journalists seeking protection to ensure freedom of expression and safety in their work.
