The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intermittent rainfall and thundershowers across Tripura during this year’s Durga Puja celebrations, placing the state under a yellow alert from September 28 to October 2.
According to a special weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre in Agartala, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the state, particularly in Dhalai district, where thundershowers and lightning are likely to occur on September 27.
On September 28, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in many places across Tripura.
The forecast further indicates that on September 30, several districts, including West Tripura, Sepahijala, Gomati, and South Tripura, may witness heavy rainfall measuring between 7 and 11 centimeters, along with thunderstorms and lightning. Similar weather conditions are expected to continue on October 1 and October 2, with widespread light to moderate showers and the possibility of heavy rainfall in the same districts.
The IMD has urged the public, along with Durga Puja organisers, to remain cautious and adopt necessary safety measures during the festivities. While the showers may bring some relief from humidity, authorities have been asked to stay prepared for any disruptions caused by the adverse weather.
Durga Puja is the most celebrated festival in Tripura, and with large gatherings anticipated across the state, local administrations are keeping a close watch on the weather to ensure public safety throughout the celebrations.
