A landmark achievement has been added to Tripura’s healthcare landscape as the Pediatric Department of Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital, Agartala, received national recognition for excellence in pediatric care.

The hospital has become the first in the state to be awarded the M.U.S.Q.A.N. (Muskan Quality Assurance for Newborns) certificate by the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The recognition follows a rigorous inspection of three key pediatric units at IGM Hospital – the Pediatric Ward, Pediatric OPD, and the Special Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) – conducted on 12 and 13 August 2025 by an external expert team from NHSRC. The hospital secured an impressive score of 81.45%, successfully meeting all six criteria required to attain the coveted “Quality Certified” status.

The M.U.S.Q.A.N. initiative, a vital component of the National Health Mission, is designed to enhance the quality and safety of healthcare services for children and newborns in government hospitals. Institutions are evaluated across six essential quality parameters, and only those meeting the national benchmarks are granted certification.

The Health and Family Welfare Department hailed this recognition as a testament to IGM Hospital’s commitment to providing safe, affordable, and high-quality care for children and newborns. This achievement is being celebrated as a significant milestone in strengthening pediatric healthcare in Tripura.

This historic accomplishment underscores the state’s dedication to advancing health services and ensuring the well-being of its youngest citizens, marking a moment of pride for both the hospital and the people of Tripura.
