Holi celebrations in Tripura saw several road accidents and large-scale police action, with authorities detaining people for drunk driving and making hundreds of preventive arrests to maintain law and order.
According to Tripura Police, security arrangements were strengthened across the state for the festival. Personnel were deployed at major intersections, highways, and sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure public safety.
Despite the festive spirit, multiple road traffic accidents were reported from different locations during the day. In a tragic incident at Uttam Bhakta Chowmuhani in Sepahijala district, a collision between a motorcycle and a truck resulted in the death of one person. The victim was identified as Prasenjit Ghosh, who was declared brought dead after being taken for medical assistance.
In another accident near Holy Cross College in Lefunga under West Tripura district at around 6:45 pm, an unidentified vehicle reportedly struck a mentally challenged man. The injured individual was immediately taken to AGMC and GBP Hospital for treatment.
Earlier, at approximately 5:10 pm, a self-accident occurred in Melaghar of Sepahijala district. Akas Mia from Mohanbhog suffered head and neck injuries after reportedly losing control of his vehicle.
Meanwhile, Tripura Police conducted extensive enforcement drives across the state to curb drunk driving and ensure safe celebrations. During the operation, 20 individuals were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol.
As part of preventive action under the Tripura Police Act, authorities also detained 206 people for consuming alcohol and loitering in public places. In total, 445 preventive arrests were made to maintain peace and security during the Holi festivities.
Traffic enforcement teams issued 330 challans under the Motor Vehicles Act, collecting fines amounting to Rs 5,69,500. Additionally, Rs 13,000 was collected in penalties for overspeeding violations.
