In view of continuous heavy rainfall, the West Tripura District Administration has urged the public to avoid travelling through the Katakhal Embankment and the stretch connecting Durgachowmuhani to the backside of Pragati Road until further notice.
In an advisory issued on Sunday, West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS, said the affected routes have become unsafe due to persistent rain, raising the possibility of embankment damage, severe waterlogging, and other weather-related hazards. The administration cautioned that using these roads could pose a serious risk to both pedestrians and motorists.
The advisory has been issued under Sections 26, 30, and 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, authorising the district administration to take necessary preventive measures for the protection of life and property during emergency situations.
Residents, commuters, and vehicle operators have been requested to avoid the affected routes and use alternative roads until conditions improve. The administration also urged the public to comply with instructions issued by the competent authorities in the interest of safety.
Calling the move a precautionary step to prevent any untoward incidents, the district administration appealed for public cooperation and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the temporary restrictions.
Officials are continuously monitoring the situation as heavy rainfall continues to impact several parts of West Tripura. The advisory will remain in effect until the weather improves and the affected roads are declared safe for normal movement.
