Tripura has registered a steady rise in tourist footfall, with more than 7.29 lakh visitors travelling to the state during the 2025-26 financial year, according to Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

The minister shared the data in the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Thursday in response to a question from MLA Antara Sarkar Deb.

Official figures placed before the Assembly show that Tripura received 5,45,299 tourists in 2023-24. The number rose sharply to 7,07,173 in 2024-25 and further increased to 7,29,414 in 2025-26, marking a 3.15 per cent growth over the previous financial year.

Domestic tourism accounted for the bulk of the increase. The state recorded 4,69,328 domestic visitors in 2023-24, which climbed to 6,27,705 in 2024-25 and reached 7,10,243 in 2025-26.

However, foreign tourist arrivals showed a decline during the latest financial year. The state received 75,971 foreign tourists in 2023-24 and 79,468 in 2024-25, before the figure dropped to 19,171 in 2025-26.

The overall growth in tourist arrivals, despite the fall in foreign visitors, reflects the increasing popularity of Tripura among domestic travellers. The state is known for its archaeological sites, temples, palaces, tribal culture, forests and scenic destinations.

The government is seeking to further promote Tripura's tourism potential and attract visitors from across the country as well as overseas.
