Man Arrested with Cannabis Worth Rs 8 Lakh at Agartala Railway Station

The Government Railway Police (GRPS) at Agartala Railway Station seized 16.305 kg of suspected cannabis, estimated to be worth around Rs 8 lakh in the black market, and arrested a 26-year-old man during an anti-narcotics operation on Sunday.

The seizure was made at around 11 am near railway track No. 13 in the loading and unloading area adjacent to the workers’ shed inside the railway yard.

According to Raju Bhowmik, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala GRPS, the arrested accused has been identified as Partha Biswas, a resident of Sadhutila, Chandramohanpara, under East Agartala Police Station in West Tripura district.

Police recovered the suspected contraband from two trolley bags allegedly carried by the accused. Following the recovery, the substance was seized and Biswas was taken into custody for further legal proceedings.

The operation was carried out by a GRPS team led by Sub-Inspector Biswajit Das and other police personnel. The seizure is being viewed as a significant success in the ongoing anti-narcotics drive ahead of the Durga Puja festivities.

In connection with the incident, Agartala GRPS registered a case under No. 2026GRP073 under Sections 20(b)(ii)(B) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police have initiated an investigation to trace the source of the suspected cannabis and determine whether the accused was linked to a wider narcotics trafficking network. Investigators are also examining the possibility of other individuals being involved in the alleged illegal trade.
