Tripura Police have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered narcotics worth an estimated Rs 10 lakh during an intelligence-based operation in Charipara, a border-area village near Agartala.

The raid was carried out by personnel from Amtali Police Station with support from the Tripura State Rifles and the Border Security Force (BSF). Acting on specific information about the movement of drugs, the joint team conducted a search operation in the area.

According to Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee, the arrested individual was allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade and had been under police surveillance as a suspected key operative.

During the search, the team recovered approximately 20 grams of heroin along with several yaba tablets. Police also seized four mobile phones from the accused, which investigators believe could provide important leads regarding his contacts and activities.

The total value of the seized narcotics in the illegal market has been estimated at around Rs 10 lakh.

The accused is scheduled to be produced before a court, where police are expected to seek custody for further questioning. Investigators are examining the seized mobile phones and other evidence to determine the source of the drugs and identify possible associates.

Police suspect that the arrested person may have been part of a wider network involved in transporting and distributing narcotics through the border areas and into Agartala.

The Amtali Police said efforts are underway to trace other members of the suspected network. Further arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
