The Public Works Department’s (PWD) Water Resources Division is actively working to protect riverbanks across the state, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said today in the Tripura Legislative Assembly.
Dr. Saha highlighted that in the Pratapgarh Assembly Constituency, erosion-prone areas are being strengthened with cement concrete blocks and boulders by the PWD.
“Riverbank protection work has already been completed at several locations, including 125 meters near Panchabati Bazar adjacent to the Prajapati Brahmakumari Ashram, 200 meters along Shyamsundar riverside at Katasheola, 50 meters near Jagannath Ashram along the Bangeshwar River, and 75 meters at Rishidas riverside. For the current financial year, additional projects are planned, including 100 meters near Panchabati Bazar and 200 meters at the remaining part of Katasheola. Tendering for these projects has been initiated, and work will start soon,” he said.
Responding to another question, the Chief Minister said measures are also underway to prevent erosion along the Laugang River in the Shantirbazar constituency.
“Boulder placement work is currently being carried out over 110 meters from Ward No. 9 of Shantirbazar Municipality along National Highway 8. Additionally, estimates for 18 other erosion-prevention projects along the Laugang River have been prepared and will be implemented with financial support under relevant schemes,” Dr. Saha said.
He also informed that estimates have been prepared for constructing a flood-protection embankment at Muhuripur along the Muhuri River.
“Work will proceed in phases with financial support from appropriate schemes. Similarly, repair work for embankments damaged in previous floods at Amjadanagar and Raypara in North Sonai Chari has been estimated, and these projects will be implemented progressively,” he added.
