On the eve of Kojagori Lakshmi Puja, the atmosphere across both city and countryside is brimming with festive enthusiasm.
Devotees are busy with last-minute preparations to worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
Since early Saturday morning, markets in the state capital have come alive with vibrant scenes of shoppers and vendors. Stalls are overflowing with paddy, durba grass, mango leaves, flowers, bel leaves, tulsi, sesame seeds, haritaki, banana stems, puffed rice (khoi), sweets, and various fruits—all essential items for the Lakshmi Puja rituals.
Temporary roadside stalls and small market setups have also appeared across the city, drawing large crowds of eager buyers since morning.
Speaking to several traders, it appears that business this year has been satisfactory overall. One shopkeeper said, “Like every year, people are very enthusiastic about Kojagori Lakshmi Puja. There’s good demand for puffed rice, paddy, sesame, sweets, and fruits. Customers have been coming continuously since morning.”
Another vendor added, “Prices are a bit higher this year, but sales remain steady. People are shopping cheerfully in the festive mood.”
Shoppers, too, expressed their excitement, saying that Kojagori Puja brings a special sense of joy and devotion to their lives. Homes across Agartala are now filled with the bustle of final preparations as families get ready to welcome Goddess Lakshmi and seek her blessings for prosperity.
All in all, on the day before the festival, Agartala’s markets have transformed into a lively hub of colors, devotion, and joy, perfectly capturing the spirit of Kojagori Lakshmi Puja.
