Former Tripura Chief Minister and CPIM Politburo member Manik Sarkar on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP, accusing it of resorting to "voter tactics" and anti-people policies to cling to power.
Speaking at a blood donation camp organized by the DYFI local Committee to mark the 25th martyrdom anniversary of CPIM leader Dr. Ajit Roy Chowdhury, Sarkar alleged that the BJP-RSS combine has created "anarchy" in Tripura and across the country.
“For the last 11 years, the RSS-controlled BJP government at the Centre has been carrying out uncivilized attacks on workers, daily wagers, minorities, farmers, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Knowing it is losing ground, the BJP is torturing the people. This is not its strength but its weakness being exposed before the public,” Sarkar said.
Referring to the Lok Sabha election outcome, the senior Left leader ridiculed BJP’s “400 paar” slogan, noting that the party managed only 240 seats and is now “running the government on the shoulders of others.”
Sarkar also pointed to the exclusion of nearly 65 lakh names—mostly from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Muslims and other minority communities—from the draft voter list in Bihar’s Special Intensified Revision. “The BJP has been silencing the opposition and manipulating electoral rolls to suit its interests,” he alleged, warning that democracy was under threat.
