Following the conclusion of Durga Puja, the city's markets are now buzzing with preparations for the upcoming Kozagori Lakshmi Puja. As is the tradition, artisans and potters have set up stalls across the city, showcasing a vibrant array of Lakshmi idols in small, medium, and large sizes.

While buyers have reported that the idols seem comparatively more expensive this year, the artisans tell a different story. According to them, despite a slight increase in the cost of raw materials, they have refrained from raising prices with the customers in mind.

The Kumortuli area of the city is a hub of activity, with artists deeply engrossed in their work. Some are cutting clay, others are busy with paintbrushes adding colours, while many are putting the final touches on the idols' decorations. Buyers have already started visiting the markets to select their idols.

The prices for the idols have been set starting from ₹300 for a small-sized idol, ₹500 for a medium one, and ₹800 for a large idol. An artisan stated, "Similar to last year, the price of the idols has remained almost the same this year as well."

However, customers have a different perspective. Many buyers claim that the prices are slightly higher compared to last year. They point out that the general cost of goods in the market is significantly high, which is reflected in their perception of the idol prices.
