After nearly two months of suspension, visa and consular services have officially resumed at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, bringing relief and excitement to hundreds of applicants.

From early Monday morning, long queues were seen outside the mission in Agartala as hopeful travelers gathered to submit fresh applications.

Visa applications are typically accepted between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., but the overwhelming turnout meant that many applicants were unable to submit their forms within the scheduled hours. The renewed opportunity to travel to Bangladesh has sparked widespread enthusiasm, especially among those with family ties across the border.

Speaking to Deutsche Welle, Agartala resident Tapan Dhar expressed his joy after receiving an appointment date of April 1, 2026, to collect his visa and passport. He said he had been trying for weeks to apply but was unable to do so while the office remained closed.

The services had been suspended since December 23, 2025, following an official notice issued on December 22 by the mission’s authorities, citing unavoidable circumstances.

Among those celebrating was Fajirul Nessa from Kailashahar in Tripura’s Unakoti district, who finally received her visa after a two-month wait. Local form-fill-up center operator Selim also welcomed the reopening, noting a strong first-day response with around 50 to 60 applications processed.
