Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Tuesday said the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner’s office in Agartala should not be allowed to reopen until attacks on Hindu minorities and what he described as anti-India statements in Bangladesh come to an end.
His remarks came after the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala suspended all visa and consular services following protests by Youth Tipra Motha (YTF).
Reacting strongly to the development, Debbarma said the suspension of services followed demonstrations by YTF and a press conference in which he had warned that if Indian diplomatic missions were threatened, India would respond appropriately.
Addressing the people of Tripura and YTF members, Debbarma stressed the importance of unity beyond political differences. He said that although Tripura is a small state, collective resolve and national unity could make it strong.
He urged citizens to set aside political affiliations and stand together in the national interest, asserting that national identity must come before party politics.
Debbarma further stated that services at the Bangladesh mission in Tripura had been halted and cautioned that the office should not resume operations unless, according to him, the alleged persecution of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh stops and anti-India rhetoric ceases.
“This is not a credit to Tipra Motha,” he said. “This is a credit to India, to unity, and to the spirit of standing together as Indians first.”
He also called upon citizens to register their protest, reiterating that safeguarding national interest should remain the top priority.
