In a remarkable display of determination and endurance, two veteran cyclists from Agartala, the capital of Tripura, successfully completed a 5,300-kilometer bicycle journey to Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of Tamil Nadu.

The cyclists, Chandan Bhowmik (66) and Ajay Kumar Saha (59), undertook the challenging expedition to spread awareness about environmental protection, conservation of natural resources, world peace, and social responsibility.

Chandan Bhowmik is a retired officer from the Agriculture Department, while Ajay Kumar Saha is a respected businessman from Agartala. Despite being over 60 years old, the two cyclists set an inspiring example of perseverance, discipline, and mental strength by completing the demanding journey in just 56 days.

The expedition began on January 5, 2026, from Agartala. Throughout the journey, they cycled an average of 100 to 220 kilometers per day, crossing several Indian states including Assam, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh before finally reaching Tamil Nadu.

Every day of the journey brought new experiences. Along the roadside, they interacted with pedestrians, villagers, youth, and elderly people, sharing stories of life, health, and resilience. Their conversations often focused on encouraging people to adopt a healthier lifestyle and remain free from substance abuse.

According to the cyclists, such long-distance bicycle journeys are not only beneficial for physical fitness but also play a vital role in strengthening mental resilience and self-discipline. They emphasized that for the younger generation, this journey carries a powerful message: a disciplined life with regular exercise can help people stay away from addiction and lead a healthy life.

Their inspiring expedition concluded on March 1 at around 7:00 PM, when they reached the historic Gandhi Mandapam in Kanyakumari.

In recognition of their extraordinary achievement, the cyclists were honored by the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation. Their accomplishment stands as a proud moment for Agartala and the entire state of Tripura, and it delivers a powerful message of awareness, resilience, and community spirit through the growing cycling movement
