Members of the All Indian Democratic Women’s Association took to the streets of Agartala city today to protest the Union Budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year, calling it “anti-people, anti-women, and corporate-friendly.”

The protest march began at the Melar Math area and traversed various city streets, culminating in a large rally at Paradise Chowmuhani. Participants raised slogans questioning why the budget failed to increase allocations for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), a vital public welfare program.

Addressing the gathering, Rama Das, criticized the budget for prioritizing corporate interests over the needs of ordinary citizens, workers, and women.

She warned that insufficient funding for MNREGA and other essential welfare schemes would push rural poor and working-class families into severe hardship.

The leader urged the government to immediately reconsider the budget and called on citizens to actively support the nationwide workers’ strike scheduled for February 12.
