The Agartala Municipal Corporation has announced plans to establish a water treatment plant on the vacant land at Bani Vidyapith School to tackle the city’s long-standing drinking water shortage. The site was inspected on Wednesday by the local MLA and Mayor, Deepak Majumdar, along with officials from the Water Board and the municipal corporation.

The proposed project includes the construction of a 5.5 million-liter water treatment plant on a 16-gunda plot at Netaji Adarsha Shiksha Mandir, in accordance with state government directives. Once completed, the plant will provide a reliable water supply to around 2,700 households in Ward Nos. 20 and 32, as well as Ramnagar areas 4 through 10.

An overhead water tank, costing approximately Rs 22 crore, will store treated water from both the Netaji Adarsha Shiksha Mandir and Rampur treatment plants. Mayor Majumdar confirmed that water from this tank will be distributed to the surrounding neighborhoods and emphasized that local community cooperation will play a key role in the project’s success.
