The Agartala Smart City Limited (ASCL) is executing projects worth over Rs 844 crore and aims to complete major storm water drain and road works before Durga Puja this year.
Chief Executive Officer of ASCL, Dr. Shailesh, informed that the organisation had undertaken 65 projects in total, all of which have been completed. Among the key challenges addressed was the recurring problem of waterlogging and flooding in the city.
“To tackle this, we implemented 24 projects worth ₹64.60 crore, installing six new flood pumps and remodelling all storm water drains for easy cleaning,” said Dr. Shailesh. For maintenance, ASCL procured super sucker and desilting machines, which were handed over to the Agartala Municipal Corporation for annual cleaning.
He added that to ensure uninterrupted water supply during storms or power cuts, double feeder systems were installed in all flood pump stations, along with six diesel-driven self-priming high-power pumps.
“While most cities experience waterlogging after 50–100 mm of rain, Agartala now remains waterlogging-free, thanks to real-time 24x7 monitoring through CCTV at the Integrated Command Control Center,” he said.
In addition, the Tripura government has entrusted ASCL with further works worth ₹844 crore under various schemes. These include the construction of 26 km of roads under the ADB Project, development of five sewage treatment plants, and 80% completion of the Hoara River Development Project.
“We are creating a smart road network covering 18 key routes. Currently, 23 km of roads and 46 km of drains are under construction, of which 31 km of drains are complete. Our target is to finish the storm water drain and road works before Durga Puja,” the CEO added.
