In Agartala, the state health services continue to provide specialized care for complex medical conditions at the Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital. Patients benefit from advanced treatment under expert supervision and return home in improved health.
An 18-year-old girl from Bishalgarh, Manikpur in Sepahijala district, was admitted to IGM Hospital on February 3, 2026, with complaints of foul-smelling ear discharge, persistent ringing in the ear, and dizziness for the past two years. She received treatment under the supervision of the hospital’s ENT specialists.
Dr. Lokshan Bhattacharya, a senior ENT consultant at IGM, reviewed the patient’s examination and reports, identifying a condition called COM (RT) Youth Cholesteatoma. This involved abnormal, destructive tissue growth behind the eardrum in the middle ear, which could lead to chronic infection and bone erosion, potentially affecting hearing. Surgery was deemed necessary to restore proper ear function.
On February 12, 2026, Dr. Bhattacharya performed a successful MRM youth ossiculoplasty procedure, reconstructing the ossicular chain in the middle ear. The surgery team included anesthesiologist Dr. Pradeep Jamatiya, along with nursing officers Kakali Chakraborty and Chandana Pal.
Due to the expertise of the ENT team and the hospital’s dedicated staff, the patient recovered swiftly. After several days of post-operative care, she was discharged in good health on February 17, 2026.
With an active Ayushman Card, the patient received the entire advanced treatment free of cost. Her parents and family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bhattacharya and the hospital staff for their tireless efforts and exemplary medical care, highlighting IGM Hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to the community.
