Tripura Submits Rs 150 Crore Tourism Development Proposal; Union Civil Aviation Minister to Visit Soon

Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced today that a proposal worth Rs 150 crore has been submitted for the development of three key tourist destinations.

He also revealed that Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu will soon visit the state to inspect the defunct Kailashahar airport in Unakoti district.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister Chowdhury highlighted the continuous efforts of the BJP-led state government to enhance Tripura’s tourism sector with support from the central government and international funding agencies.

“We have been working closely with the central government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to boost tourism in Tripura. Recently, we met Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) proposing three projects—Rs 70 crore for the redevelopment of Jampui Hills, including Eden Tourist Lodge and adventure tourism; Rs 50 crore for the Tripura Heritage Village and Sangeer Experience in Jirania; and Rs 30 crore for the Mystic Plantation Retreat at Lakhilunga Tea Estate in the West District. The Union Minister assured us that these projects will receive approval after March,” Chowdhury said.

He also discussed railway development with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, raising key demands such as the introduction of the Vande Bharat Express in Tripura, converting the Dharmanagar-Sabroom railway line into a double track, and transforming Agartala Railway Station into a world-class facility. He further sought improved cleanliness in trains and fast-tracking the railway track construction at Sekerkote near the IOCL depot.

In addition, Chowdhury met Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Pralhad Joshi to request the release of Rs 53.17 crore in pending funds.

“The Union Minister assured that the funds will be cleared soon. We also requested the establishment of an FCI regional office in Agartala, and he instructed officials to take necessary steps. Once the land is allocated, the office will be inaugurated,” the minister said.

During his meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Chowdhury urged the declaration of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport as an international airport and the initiation of international flight services.

“We also discussed the abandoned Kailashahar airport in Unakoti district. The minister assured us that he will personally visit the site to evaluate the possibility of its revival,” he added.
