Tripura MP visits generic medicine centre at IGM Hospital

Tripura Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, Bhattacharya visited the Generic Medicine Centre of IGM Hospital today.

The visit was part of a nationwide campaign to promote the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) and ensure that affordable medicines reach the masses.

A short program was organized at the Jan Aushadhi Centre of IGM Hospital to mark the occasion.

The event saw the presence of key officials, including the Chief Medical Officer of West Tripura District, the Member Secretary of the State Health and Family Welfare Association, and other senior officials of the Health Department.

The program was organized by the District Health and Family Welfare Association, West Tripura District, as part of efforts to extend the reach of affordable generic medicines to every citizen.

Addressing the gathering, MP Bhattacharya highlighted the significance of the Jan Aushadhi initiative, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had formally launched the scheme in 2014.

"Over the past 11 years, nearly 15,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been established across the country. In Tripura, there are currently ten such centers operating to provide essential medicines at significantly lower prices," he said.

The MP emphasized that the primary goal of Jan Aushadhi Kendras is to make quality medicines accessible to all, especially those from economically weaker sections, by offering them at a fraction of the cost of branded alternatives.

He urged people to take advantage of these centers and spread awareness about the benefits of the scheme.
