Tripura MP flags alarming rise in RTA in West Tripura, directs strict action on traffic violations

Tripura's former Chief Minister and  Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has raised a red flag over the growing number of traffic accidents in West Tripura District, citing rampant illegal parking and unchecked vehicular movement as key contributors.

Speaking at a quarterly meeting of the district's road safety committee held at Sonar Tari Guest House on Wednesday, Deb stressed the urgent need for a coordinated action plan to curb the rising fatalities.

“Uncontrolled traffic and illegal parking across Agartala are deteriorating the situation. Road accidents have become a serious concern for the administration,” he remarked.

The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders including Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar and West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar SP Traffic Kanta Jangir, focused on crafting a strategy aimed at reducing road accident deaths.

Talking to the media after the session, MP Deb said that a targeted action plan is in the works. “We deliberated on identifying the root causes behind these accidents, mapping high-risk zones, and reinforcing road safety norms with stricter enforcement,” he said.

Deb further highlighted the administration’s resolve to act tough against violations of traffic rules and unauthorized parking.

“We will ensure the rules are firmly implemented. Simultaneously, we appeal to the youth to take the lead in promoting road safety awareness,” he added.
