Tripura MLA slams PM Modi over ‘fake cases’ against Congress leaders

Former Tripura Minister and senior Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of orchestrating fake cases against top Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to distract the public from pressing national issues ahead of the upcoming Bihar elections.

The Tripura Congress organized a protest rally and staged a demonstration outside the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Agartala as part of a nationwide agitation.

Addressing party workers and supporters during the protest, Roy Barman alleged that the cases against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi were baseless and intended solely to defame the Congress leadership. “These are fabricated charges, aimed at maligning their image and diverting attention from the real issues facing the country,” he said.

Taking a swipe at the BJP-led central government, the Congress MLA raised questions about the Pulwama attack, where 42 CRPF personnel lost their lives. “What happened in Kashmir was tragic, but to this day, no one knows who was behind it. Even the then-Governor Satya Pal Malik admitted that lapses were made. The Prime Minister politicized the incident for electoral gain,” he alleged.

He added that while Congress supporters could have broken the police barricades, they chose restraint out of respect for the local police. “We understand their plight. They are also suffering under this regime. Nothing good is happening in the country. Farmers are dying, youth are jobless, and life-saving drugs are becoming more expensive,” Roy Barman said.

Criticizing the BJP government further, he alleged that the ruling party is engaged in a conspiracy to distract voters and suppress dissent. “We have not come to threaten the ED or resort to violence. We are here to make it clear that fascist governments do not last forever,” he said.

He added that the Congress party is documenting all developments, from the grassroots to the national level. “We are maintaining detailed records. This won’t go on forever. These fake cases will be stretched till elections in Bihar and Kerala, but the people will not be fooled indefinitely. They will give a befitting reply,” Roy Barman said.
