Assam Rifles Seizes Contraband Worth Rs 99 Lakh in Tripura

In a significant anti-smuggling operation, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Department, seized 5,500 bottles of banned Phensedyl cough syrup from a forested area near Kalachhara, Agartala, on March 11.

According to an official statement by Assam Rifles, the confiscated consignment is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 99 lakh in the international market.

"Based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation was conducted to disrupt the illegal trade of the banned syrup, which is frequently misused as a narcotic substance. The seized consignment has been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal proceedings," the statement read.

The operation underscores the ongoing efforts of Assam Rifles and the Customs Department in curbing drug smuggling and ensuring public safety in the region.
