The Neurology Department of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital has marked a significant milestone in the treatment of complex neurological diseases.

The department, functioning under the supervision of Director of Health Prof. (Dr.) Tapan Majumdar and Medical Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, has set a new benchmark in healthcare services in Tripura.

As per Directorate of Health Department on August 4, a 60-year-old diabetic patient was admitted to the Neurology Department with severe walking difficulty and loss of balance. Assistant Professor Dr. Abir Lal Nath, along with neurologist Dr. Arpan Mitra, promptly conducted MRI Spine and NCV tests as per the CIDP protocol.

“Although the NCV report appeared nearly normal, the patient’s deteriorating clinical condition raised concern. Without delay, the doctors decided to administer Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy. The life-saving drug, costing around Rs 3 lakh, was provided free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.  Following treatment and physiotherapy support, the patient gradually regained balance and mobility. Within days, he was able to stand and even walk with assistance”, the statement reads.

He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, physiotherapists, and healthcare workers of AGMC & GBP Hospital for giving him a “new lease of life.”

The successful case underscores the growing capabilities of the Neurology Department and reflects the state government’s commitment to providing advanced healthcare to the people of Tripura.
