5 Bangladeshi with fake Aadhaar held in Tripura, enroute to Gujarat for work

The arrest of five Bangladeshi nationals in Udaipur with forged Aadhaar cards has raised serious concerns about human trafficking and border security in Tripura.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended them at Udaipur Railway Station while they were en route to Gujarat, allegedly in search of work.

According to officials, the GRP received a tip-off about suspected illegal migrants traveling on the Kanchanjunga Express. Acting swiftly, they intercepted a group comprising one man and four women, whose behavior aroused suspicion. Upon verification, their Aadhaar cards were found to be fake, leading to their detention and subsequent handover to Tripura Police.

What stands out in this case is the organized nature of the illegal cross-border movement.

One of the detainees admitted that they had paid ₹15,000 each to a tout who not only facilitated their illegal entry into India but also provided them with forged Aadhaar cards. The group had reportedly spent a night at the tout’s residence before boarding the train to Gujarat.

This revelation points to a larger nexus of human traffickers who exploit vulnerable individuals from Bangladesh, luring them with promises of better job prospects in India. The arrested individuals cited economic hardship and rising prices in Bangladesh as their reasons for attempting the journey.

Security experts believe such cases highlight loopholes in border surveillance and the ease with which fake identity documents are being procured. Authorities are now investigating whether the arrested individuals were victims of human trafficking or part of a larger network facilitating illegal migration.
