The District and Sessions Court in Udaipur, Gomati district, has sentenced a woman to 10 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for the death of her husband following a fatal assault in 2023.

The court convicted Kajal Kanya Jamatia, wife of the deceased Prem Kumar Jamatia, in connection with ST (T-1) 17/2023, arising from Birganj Police Station Case No. 16/2023.

According to a Tripura Police press release, the incident took place on April 27, 2023, at around 9 am at Kashipada Colony under Birganj Police Station. Kajal Kanya Jamatia allegedly attacked her husband with a chopper, causing a fatal cut-throat injury inside their dwelling.

Following the incident, she surrendered before the Birganj Police Station in Gomati district.

Police launched an investigation into the case, and Inspector Bimal Baidya of Birganj Police Station, who is currently posted at the Central Training Institute (CTI), Gakulnagar, Sepahijala district, submitted the chargesheet before the court on May 31, 2023.

The case was initially registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). After examining the evidence and hearing the case, the court found the accused guilty under Section 304 Part-I of the IPC.

The District and Sessions Judge, Udaipur, subsequently sentenced Kajal Kanya Jamatia to 10 years of Rigorous Imprisonment.

The verdict follows a detailed investigation by the Birganj Police Station and the subsequent trial of the case before the court.
