The Tripura government is committed to addressing the shortage of doctors in hospitals across the state, and more doctors will be recruited in the coming days, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a programme held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala, where he handed over appointment letters to newly recruited doctors. As part of the latest recruitment drive, 42 General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs) joined the state’s healthcare system.

Speaking at the event, Saha said the state government has been continuously working to strengthen public healthcare by ensuring modern medical technology, necessary infrastructure and adequate numbers of doctors.

“Our primary objective is to ensure better, quality and accessible healthcare services for the people,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the government would continue its efforts to build a people-centric healthcare system.

Highlighting the state’s healthcare initiatives, Saha said Tripura has achieved 100 per cent health insurance coverage and that OPD services have been introduced in all district hospitals. Trauma centres have also been made operational in six districts.

He further said that the state now has four medical colleges along with pharmacy and dental colleges, while the government is planning to establish a super-speciality medical college in the future.

From the next academic session, Ayurvedic and Homeopathic medical colleges are also expected to begin functioning in Tripura, he said.

Saha expressed hope that these initiatives would help transform Tripura into a medical hub in the Northeast and further improve healthcare facilities for the people.

Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte and other senior officials were also present at the programme.
